Drawings, 2010 Don’t get me started: My friend Kate wrote an excellent poem called Don’t get me started about the man who holds the world record for the longest bout of hiccups (64 years, if you’re wondering) & I drew this around about the same time. Hic!

SOB: this is a drawing made of rocks by a castaway, who set out to draw a huge SOS but lost heart after the first two letters. The silly so & so.

Way in, way out: A friend wanted a wall-drawing above her back door, and this is my idea. It’s also a little private joke between me and her son but now that he’s a teenager it’s no longer appropriate to even talk about it.

I do not really miss the boat: this is the last line in a poem called ‘Aesthetics’ by David Mitchell, about a man tricked into jumping overboard.

For a while in 2007 – 2008 I started drawing onto old endpapers. I liked the history of these bits of paper, the little rips and marks and stains that had to be steered around or incorporated into my drawing. In the end, tearing them from old books felt too naughty and I had to stop.
